Born in Petah Tikva, and grew up in Kfar Ma'as. The move to the village has made her a nature lover and influenced her artistic world. Her father, an amateur painter, nurtured her love of painting. While attending "Tichon Hadash" high-school she studied painting at Avni's "Studia", and specialized in the sculpture department with Moshe Sterenshuss, who later became her husband, and with whom she joined the "New Horizons" group, where she was the only woman and the youngest artist.

Her initial work was with applied arts and she presented ceramic jewelry in the triennial in Milan next to artists such as Salvador Dali and Chillida. She made the glazed ceramics Zodiac street signs decorating Old Jaffa; her works, that were characterized by oriental colors, represented Israel at the "Expo" exhibition in Montreal, and she designed fabrics for "Maskit" and "Gottex" as well.

The birth of her daughter Hagit has inspired Ruth's sculptures of infants and children presented at the Venice Biennale in 1970. In 1975, her solo exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum presented torso sculptures that were inspired by Greek sculpture. In 1981, her solo exhibition at the Youth Wing of the Israeli Museum  to reflected  the various arts she created. 

Ruth illustrated approximately 70 books, the first of which was "Bridegroom of Blood" by H. Hazaz and the most famous was "Uncle Simha" by Ayin Hillel. She illustrated books by Isaac Bashevis Singer, Tirza Atar, Miriam Ruth, Nurit Zarchi and Leah Goldberg. "Hushchusheet", "The Garden" and "Karpazon's Journey to the Big City" are among the books that she wrote and illustrated. In 2004, she established a colorful procession of aluminum sculptures called "Uncle Simha Loves Animals " by Ayin Hillel in the "Garden Story" in Holon. Ruth participated in 90 exhibitions, of which 23 were solo exhibitions, and has won 14 awards and commendations for her work.
